The International Conference ‘The Legacy of Angelo Secchi SJ 200 years after his birth’ will be held in Rome on September 3-5, 2018, at the Biblioteca Casanatense. Internationally renowned scholars will recall Secchi’s contributions to the different fields where he carried out pioneering and innovative research.
Father Angelo Secchi was undoubtedly one of the first scientists to promote the application of photography to the study of stars and the spectral classification of stars he proposed is followed up to these days. Likewise, his studies on the Sun have paved the way to the most advanced research on solar activity and on the structure and evolution of stars. Thus, a legacy in astronomy and astrophysics, but also in meteorology, geophysics, geodesy, and geomagnetism.
